Rolex Explorer 114270

The Explorer, launched in 1953, set itself apart with a simple design and a highly legible black dial with large hour markers and characteristic 3,6,9 numerals. It is a tool watch, created to tell time accurately, whatever the circumstances and has adorned the wrists of some of the greatest explorers undertaking incredible expeditions (like Sir Edmund Hillary to Mount Everest).

In 2001 the 114270 reference was launched and was fitted with a new 3130 Rolex calibre movement and with solid end links. They also switched to Superluminova for the dial’s luminous material. It was still fitted in a polished 36mm Oyster case with a glossy black dial with its iconic 3,6,9 hour markers and Mercedes hour hand. The glass is sapphire crystal and is fitted with a twin-lock screw down crown for water resistance up to 100M. The rehaut is engraved on this model too.

Discontinued in 2010 after a short run of production, the 114270 was replaced with the 39mm 214270. This makes the 114270 a very good proposition for anyone who loves the classic design and size of the Explorer.

Originally purchased in 2007 and in mint condition, comes with all papers.
